September 26, 2009 Know Your Competition
Dateline September 26, 2009

You Gotta Know What (and Who) You're Up Against!

I entered the asphalt maintenance business primarliy for one reason - weak competition.  Let's face it, anyone who says they love good competition is nuts!  I love competition only to the extent they make my team look better.  And in this industry, that is all too often the case; to their own detriment and that of their customers.

But, one must not paint with too broad a brush.  There are many excellent asphalt maintenance companies out there with impeccable credentials and great reputations.  If I had an 800 pound gorilla already in my market, I wouldn't be writing this article...I'd have looked elsewhere for a different opportunity.  If you were to consider a YELLOW DAWG STRIPING  Franchise to own (www.YellowDawgStriping.com) or a BLACK DAWG SEALCOAT Franchise (www.BlackDawgFranchise.com) we will help you conduct a very thorough due diligence on your competition.  We have our own "top secret" methods to perform this research that we won't share here but, needless to say, knowing the competition is a critical step in deciding if you're entering the right market.

I stumbled upon a terrific blog From BizQuest (www.BizQuest.com) about checking out the competition and you can click here to read the full article:  http://blog.bizquest.com/2009/09/investigating-the-competition-of-a-business-for-sale.html.  It really is a must read.

Know your competition better than they know themselves before you enter the market.  If they're weak, do not assume they will remain weak.  We have seen many competitors for BLACK DAWG throw in the towel, but we've also seen many improve their operations.  If it's a really tough market in your area, we'll suggest another path.

Our goal is to put you into a weak and fragmented market so you can quickly dominate through our internal business support systems and your own hard work and enthusiasm.  Once you are the dominate player, we can help you stay ahead of the competition.  We've done it with BLACK DAWG and we know our same systems will work with YELLOW DAWG.

Do your homework!

Best wishes in your search,
